New World Survival · School Garden Field Manual
Summer Duty & Continuity Workbook
Choose the summer operating strategy, verify campus and water access, train duty coverage, establish heat/weather stops and define the garden condition required when school resumes.
Summer stop condition: Do not leave a crop, irrigation system or volunteer-dependent garden active over break unless a named owner, backup, authorized campus access, water control and failure escalation are already in place.
1. Summer operating objective
☐ Rest and protect beds
☐ Low-effort living cover / teaching system
☐ Limited summer production
☐ Active summer school/camp/community program
Why this strategy matches our actual labor, access, water and instructional goals
2. Summer ownership
Administrator / facilities contact Emergency / security contact
3. School-break dates and campus windows

| Drought / restriction source | | | |
6. Demand-reduction checklist
☐ Spring crops removed before they become unmanaged
☐ Leaks repaired or affected zones closed
☐ Beds mulched / protected appropriately
☐ Locally appropriate cover / low-effort planting selected where used
☐ Containers reduced or assigned explicit watering
☐ Unnecessary summer harvest commitments removed
☐ High-maintenance structures / tasks deferred

10. Minor/student supervision plan
Are minors participating?☐ no ☐ yes
Controlling school policy / contact Adult supervision requirement Parent/guardian / camp permissions
11. Heat / air-quality / lightning plan
Current baseline: use current local heat/air-quality information, cooler parts of the day where possible, shade, breaks and hydration. If someone becomes faint or weak, stop activity and move to a cool place. For lightning, move to a substantial building or hard-topped vehicle and wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder before returning.

☐ Campus-access system worked
☐ Water/irrigation failures understood
☐ Heat/weather stops were usable
☐ Volunteer training was sufficient
☐ Food harvest matched approved capacity
☐ Missed duties triggered escalation
☐ Return condition was achieved without emergency rescue
☐ Next summer strategy adjusted from evidence
☐ Findings moved into Annual Health Audit / Operating Calendar
