Cut non-essentials now.
Every $100 per month you cut extends your runway. Subscriptions, dining, extras — do it before you need to.
Check health coverage options.
You have 60 days to elect COBRA. Illinois Medicaid expanded — check your household at the state benefits portal.
Apply for food and utility assistance.
Apply through the state benefits portal. SNAP takes up to 30 days to process — apply sooner rather than later.
Call 211.

Unemployment benefits
File online through the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) at the state portal. Base max $628/week for individuals; $748 with non-working spouse; $859 with dependent child (only one allowance may be claimed). File via ILogin account at ides.illinois.gov. Illinois provides free legal representation for eligible claimants. 30 days to appeal.
