A hospital requirement is not offset by a charming downtown.
North Carolina small-town directory
Find a town worth investigating.
Browse practical, researched profiles. Compare the conditions that shape ordinary household life. Then use a transparent matching worksheet to narrow the field without pretending that a town score can answer a property question.
What this directory is for
Town research that leaves room for the address.
A useful small town needs more than scenery or inexpensive listings. The directory examines housing pathways, healthcare, food and agriculture, utilities, communications, services, roads, work, community life, hazards and the rules surrounding property use.
The research narrows a search. It does not replace a visit, an inspection, an insurance quote, a title review or written confirmation from the offices that govern a particular property.
Unknown is not converted into zero, a pass or a reassuring estimate.
In-town homes, garden lots, rentals, small acreage and rural properties receive equal attention.

Find Your Town
A household worksheet, not a personality quiz.
State what the household cannot compromise on. Then weight the conditions that would improve daily life. Results explain their reasoning, conflicts and missing evidence.

How to read the results
Transparent enough to question.
The model is intentionally modest. It organizes evidence and household priorities. It does not predict happiness, belonging, resale value or property safety.
Community score
The provisional 100-point research score uses the fixed editorial rubric. It stays separate from your match.
Preference fit
Your importance settings weight the same 0–5 town ratings. Every contribution can be opened in the result.
Hard checks
Pass, does not pass and unresolved are reported independently. A strong preference fit cannot erase a failure.
Property proof
Flood, access, insurance, broadband, cell service, zoning, covenants, wells and septic systems require address-level work.
Research limits and corrections
Useful direction. No implied certification.
This directory uses a reviewed local dataset and operates without an external API. Facts, programs, services, housing supply and road conditions change. A town-level finding cannot certify a property, route, utility, insurer, school placement, medical network or communications provider.
Before a move, verify the exact address with public records, qualified inspectors, service providers, insurers, local officials and an ordinary-week scouting visit. If a result says unresolved, treat it as a question to answer, not a defect to ignore.
