A drawer full of tools is not the same as a toolkit
Most households have tools scattered across drawers, buckets, and forgotten corners of closets. A few screwdrivers here, a hammer with a loose head somewhere, maybe a wrench that came with a piece of furniture years ago. What they usually do not have is a clear picture of what they own, what condition it is in, and what is missing when a job actually comes up.
That gap shows itself at the worst time. A faucet drips on a Saturday night, the junk drawer produces a flathead screwdriver when you need a Phillips, and the flashlight batteries died two moves ago. The tool exists. It just does not work when you reach for it.
The tool comes before the repair

But none of that matters if the basic tools are missing, broken, or unfamiliar. Knowing which tool fits a job and checking it before you use it is the foundation every later module stands on.
That inspection habit is worth building early. A hammer with a cracked handle, a screwdriver with a chewed tip, or a utility knife with a dull blade can turn a simple job into a frustrating one, or an unsafe one. Before you use any hand tool, a quick check takes less than ten seconds:
- Handle sound and secure
- Head tight, no wobble
- Blade or tip in working shape
- Right tool for the material
- Work area clear and well lit
The most capable households are not the ones with the most tools. They are the ones that know where each tool is and that it works.
