What it is
The Honda EU1000i is the smallest inverter generator Honda makes, built around the Honda GXH50 engine at 49.4cc. It delivers 900 running watts and 1,000 starting watts on gasoline, with a 0.55-gallon tank running 3.0 hours at rated load up to 6.8 hours at a quarter load. Like the rest of Honda's small inverter line, its Eco Throttle System varies engine speed with the load, which is most of the reason it runs so quietly.
The control panel is simple: one 15-amp duplex outlet and a recoil pull start, with no electric start option at this size. At 28.7 pounds dry, it is genuinely light enough to carry with one hand for any distance, roughly 40 percent lighter than Honda's own EU2200i. Two units can be linked with an optional parallel cable, sold separately, for up to 2,000 combined watts.

The one thing to know
Carbon monoxide safety is non-negotiable
Portable generators produce carbon monoxide, an odorless gas that can reach lethal concentrations indoors within minutes. The CPSC recommends placing any portable generator at least 20 feet from all doors, windows, and vents, with the exhaust pointed away from the home. Never run a generator indoors, in a garage, on a covered porch, in a carport, or in any enclosed or partially enclosed space, even with doors or windows open. Honda's CO-MINDER continuously monitors carbon monoxide levels near the unit and shuts it down automatically before they become dangerous, but this is a backup layer, not a substitute for correct placement. Not sold in California, and the noise rating has a history
This model, EU1000T1AN, is not sold in California; Honda directs California residents to model EU1000T1AG instead. Separately, some retailers and older marketing materials still list a 53 to 59 decibel noise rating for this generator. Honda confirmed to customers that this was the pre-2017 figure and that 42 to 50 decibels is the current, corrected rating after third-party retesting. If you see the older, louder number listed somewhere, it is outdated.
The other thing to know is capacity. At 900 running watts, this generator covers one meaningful load at a time, not a household's worth of appliances at once. It is not a replacement for a larger generator if your plan involves running a refrigerator and lights and chargers simultaneously. Think of it as the generator for charging batteries, running a CPAP machine overnight, or powering a single essential device quietly.

Maintenance
Run the generator under load for 15 to 30 minutes every 30 days to keep the engine and fuel system in working order. Add fuel stabilizer to the tank for any storage period longer than 30 days, since untreated gasoline in a small carburetor is especially prone to clogging.
Check the oil level before every use; Oil Alert shuts the engine off automatically if oil drops below a safe level, which helps prevent damage but is not a reason to skip checking. Follow the manual's schedule for oil change intervals, and inspect the air filter and spark plug annually.
